SOME OF MY CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

2009

• Completed my largest single job for Tandberg. 3 days of shooting in different locations, 28 models, hair and makeup, and less Photoshop work.
• Started marketing my art work, with half a dozen exhibits.


2008

• Photographed doctors at all 30 Kaiser Permanente medical centers for open enrollment brochures. Non-profit health care organization is currently largest client
• Photographed the National Rifle Association’s counsel-of-record in D.C. v. Heller, Stephen D. Poss of Goodwin Procter LLP
• Photographed advertising campaign for SiteLine Communications
• Spring issue of Modern Bride Washington highlighted my wedding photography
• Became a member of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)

2006–2007

• Built standalone photography studio in Del Ray, Alexandria
• Desert Star Systems, an navigation technology company that I am a partner in, grew to $4 million in annual sales
• Taught Photoshop I and II courses at Washington School of Photography

2004–2005

• Photographed first magazine cover, for Diversity in the Bar. Continue to shoot covers for other magazines several times a year
• Volunteered as Arlandria Health Center for Women and Children’s on-call photographer. Currently work with them up to ten times a year
• Attended Photoshop World Conference and Expo

2002–2003

• Moved to own studio in Old Town, Alexandria
• Photographed 45 weddings in ‘02. Represents culmination of advertising and networking efforts in this arena
• Attended Denis Reggie’s weeklong workshop for wedding photographers in Atlanta
• Started using Lynda.com as an educational resource. Currently complete 2-3 hours of coursework each month
• Photographed first event for Kaiser Permanente

1999–2001

• Photographed several CD catalogs for Time Life
• Began advertising for wedding clients
• Designed first web page in Macromedia Flash 4. Published first web site in Adobe GoLive
• Assisted Robert Burke on stock photography shoot in Ireland for three weeks
• Attended Photoplus Expo. Continue to participate every other year. Also attended Seybold Conference in Boston
• Shared studio space with John Astorino

1997–1998

• Earned Certificate in Graphic Design from George Washington University. Learned PageMaker. Transition to Quark Express. Learned Adobe Illustrator
• Fulltime assistant at PhotoGroup in ‘97. Also assisted for Phil Hunter, Robert Burke, and David Sharpe
• Taught Photoshop course with Eddie Tapp in Washington, DC
• Became a student member of ASMP
• Incorporated Desert Star Systems
• Shared studio space with David Sharpe

1994–1996

• Incorporated McFarland Photography, president Greg Knott
• Became Chief Marketing Officer for Desert Star Systems. Responsible for collateral design brochures, postcards, print buying, and web site content and management
• Traveled on two month photo safari in Africa
• Fulltime assistant for Larry Ruggieri in ‘96
• Became a member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Took weeklong PPA Photoshop course with Eddie Tapp. Then assisted him in studio for a week in Atlanta
• Student, Northern Virginia Community College (‘96). Learned Photoshop 2.5
• Student, Washington School of Photography (‘95)
